Flood the Luminous Body, 2015.
6 x 6 inch monoprint and acrylic on cotton muslin. 2015
This is a series of monoprints on cotton muslin. I am drawn to the soft, skin-like quality of fabric as a substrate for my prints, in part because of the very reference that fabric and clothing make to the body. An emotional desire to love and be loved (in relationships, in life, by family, by friends) often takes form as a visceral, bodily experience. The prints presented here balance, and often teeter, between deep feelings and emotions and actual references to skin, landscape, stone, body, and water. The unravelled threads that are then stitched back into the work serve as a reminder that we are always ourselves, even when the threads are reordered and especially when the weaving of our lives unravel.
